What It Is
Retatrutide is an investigational triple agonist of the GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors, in phase 3 trials for obesity. It is a different compound from tirzepatide (a dual GLP-1/GIP agonist) and is not approved for any use.
Key Benefits
- Phase 2 trials showed substantial weight reduction
- Reduces appetite via GLP-1 receptor activity
- Glucagon activity may increase energy expenditure
- Being studied for type 2 diabetes and fatty liver
- Once-weekly dosing in clinical trials
- Long-term safety data not yet available
Common Goals

Treatment suitability and placement require qualified clinical assessment.
How It Works
Retatrutide activates GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors. GLP-1 and GIP signalling reduce appetite and improve glycaemic control, while glucagon receptor activity is thought to increase energy expenditure. Efficacy and safety are still being established in phase 3 trials.
